Fifth Friday Celebrations Across Pennsylvania Heritage Areas

FRANKLIN, Pa. – The twelve Pennsylvania Heritage Areas are kicking off a series of Fifth Friday Celebrations across the state, starting with Friday, September 29.

Jane Sheffield, President of HeritagePA, announced the diverse cultural events, saying “Our state’s 12 unique heritage areas are not only teeming with history and heritage, but with plenty of things to do. Our Fifth Friday celebrations are just one way we are continuing to educate and bring communities together.”

In the Oil Region National Heritage Area, the featured public program is the live musical performance of “Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka” being performed by the actors, singers, and dancers of the Franklin Civic Operetta Association.

The 7:30 p.m. performance is held at the Barrow-Civic Theatre, 1223 Liberty Street, Franklin. Ticket purchases and seating reservations are direct with the Barrow, at (800) 537-7769; www.barrowtheatre.com.

Local resident Nicholas Hess will portray Willy Wonka, while Ben Hoover depicts the Candy Man.

The Lumber Heritage Region and the Pa. Route 6 Heritage Corridor invites visitors to explore the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum located at 5660 U. S. Route 6, Galeton, PA.

Guests who mention “HeritagePA” at the check-in desk will receive a complimentary admission with a purchase of a regular admission of equal value.

In southwestern Pennsylvania, the National Road Heritage Corridor is hosting a Washington Libations Locations Poker Stroll through Washington, PA where participants will enjoy an evening of live music, local art, and museums.

Further east, the Zimmerman Center for Heritage on the west bank of the lower Susquehanna River south of Wrightsville will have special Friday hours. And, on the east bank at the Columbia Crossing River Trails Center located at 41 Walnut Street, Columbia, PA, an art exhibit by Diana Thomas is entitled “Current Color: A Year on the River.”

The Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor invites all to visit the National Canal Museum in Easton, PA and then in the evening attend a live musical entitled “Rock and Roll Man: The Alan Freed Story.”
