ROCKLAND TWP., Pa. (EYT)  — A Franklin man is facing burglary charges following a state police investigation into a Rockland Township break-in.

Corry-based State Police filed the following charges against 29-year-old Joshua Earl McVay on August 21:

  • Burglary – Overnight Accommodation, No Person Present, Felony 1
  • Criminal Trespass — Break Into Structure, Felony 2
  • Theft By Unlaw Taking — Movable Property, Felony 2
  • Criminal Mischief – Damage Property, Summary

According to a criminal complaint filed by Tpr. Hagan, State Police responded to a report of a residential burglary on May 15 at 1920 Hornberg Road in Rockland Township, Venango County.

The victim told police that when his children came home from school, they noticed a padlock had been broken off of the door to the house.

When the victim returned home, he entered the residence and discovered that someone had broken into his wooden gun cabinet and removed a Ruger GP100 revolver. The victim said only a few people knew about the gun and he believed Joshua McVay could be responsible.

Investigators dusted a wooden box and the padlock for fingerprints and sent them to the Erie Regional Laboratory for an AFIS (Automated Fingerprint Identification Systems) comparison.

On May 28, police interviewed McVay at the Venango County Jail, where he was lodged on unrelated charges. During the interview, McVay denied stealing the gun.

On July 28, police received a lab report from the Erie Regional Laboratory which revealed the fingerprints on the wooden box matched McVay’s fingerprints on file.

McVay remains lodged in the Venango County Jail on $25,000 cash bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 30, with District Judge Patrick Lowrey presiding.

McVay is also facing theft and drug possession charges in two unrelated cases.
