FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) — The Rocky Grove Fireman’s Fair at the fire department grounds on Shufstall Street in Franklin wraps up on Saturday.

The fair, a local tradition since 1933, kicked off at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

The parking fee is $3.00 per night.

Saturday’s main attraction is the garden tractor pull.

Additionally, crafters and vendors will be inside the large fire hall.

Allegheny Toyota will also have two vehicles on display.

Events throughout the week at the popular local fair included fireworks, a car show, and a parade.

The fire department relies heavily on the Fireman’s Fair to help with their operating expenses.

All of the workers are volunteers, and the money collected from the fair goes directly to the fire company.

About Rocky Grove Volunteer Fire Department

For 85 years, the Rocky Grove Volunteer Fire Department has stood ready to respond to emergencies at a moment’s notice. Their selfless men and women provide this service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

They do this without receiving any compensation. In 2017, the department responded to 219 calls for service.

Nearly all of their annual operating revenue is generated from the community, through fund drives and fundraising activities such as the fireman’s fair.

Their annual budget provides for fire truck financing, tools and equipment, fuel, insurance, repairs, utilities, personal protective equipment and training.

This year their annual operating budget has seen an increase to $185,000.00 in part due to their aging building and equipment.

Many of the systems are original within the building and much of their equipment has exceeded its useful service life.

The fire department anticipates this year (in addition to their normal operating costs) purchasing a new brush truck at an estimated cost of around $130,000.00.

The fire company currently has one brush tank, two fire engines, one heavy rescue and one tanker to upkeep.

The company has around 20 to 25 active firemen, including five junior firemen.

To outfit a firefighter with a helmet, gloves, gear and other necessary equipment,  the cost is approximately $8,000.00 per person

To make a donation to the fire department, make your check payable to Rocky Grove Volunteer Fire Department and mail it to: 29 Shufstall Street, Franklin, Pa. 16323.
