MARIENVILLE, Pa. (EYT) – “Flat Stanley” recently made an appearance at East Forest Elementary School as part of the school’s English unit on writing friendly letters.

Flat Stanley is a character in a children’s book written by Jeff Brown. Stanley’s adventures start when he is flattened by his bookcase. After being flattened, Stanley is mailed in letter to California.

Second grade students at East Forest Elementary School learned how to write friendly letters and then sent “Flat Stanley” in a letter to visit a relative or friend. Students have started to get Stanley back in the mail, and he has told them all about his adventures while visiting various states, including Pennsylvania, Montana, West Virginia, South Carolina, and New York. One group of kids from right here in Pennsylvania even made a friend for Stanley, named “Flat Stacey.”

Jeff Brown, who passed away in 2003, penned many books about Flat Stanley. Stanley’s tales have sold nearly one million copies in the United States.
