Forest C. Thomas

Forest C. Thomas, 89, formerly of Paul Revere Rd, Oil City, passed away on Sunday, September 23, 2018, at Westlake Woods in Erie.

Born September 27, 1928, in Oil City, he was a son of the late Forest L. and Lena Fleischman Thomas.

Mr. Thomas was employed by the Pennsylvania Electric Company (Penelec), retiring after 43 years of service as a supervisor in the Line Department.

He was a member of Good Hope Lutheran Church, Oil City Masonic Lodge No. 363 F. & A.M., Oil City Lodge of Perfection, New Castle Consistory, Venango County Shrine Club, the Zem Zem Shrine in Erie, Acacia Grotto, Oil City Moose Lodge #78, and the Venango County Coon and Fox Club.

Forest was an avid golfer and his favorite golf course was Hi-Level. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son and daughters and was a Scout Master at Good Hope Lutheran Church. He especially loved being surrounded by his family.

On June 30, 1948, he was married to the former Virginia Anderson, who survives. They celebrated 70 years of marriage this year.

In addition to his wife, surviving are three children, Scott C. Thomas of Erie, Judith Griffith and her husband William of Fairborn, OH, and Barbara Morris and her husband Thomas of Erie; and two grandchildren, Eric and Julie Thomas of Erie.

Also surviving are three sisters, Gretchen Roach and her husband Wayne of Oil City, Nancy Lake of Orchard Park, NY, and Gloria Augenbaugh of Oil City; and two sisters-in-law, Joan Thomas Loree and Hope Thomas, both of Warren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Deborah Thomas; three brothers, Leroy, Robert, and Merritt Thomas; a sister, Earldean Gulla; two brothers-in-law, Michael Gulla and Charles (Butch) Aughenbaugh; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Thomas; two nieces, Kim Kurtich and Kathy Goodman; and a nephew, Lance Graham.

Friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Friday in Good Hope Lutheran Church, where a funeral service will follow at noon with the Rev. Michael Parsh officiating.

Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens.

The family suggests memorials be made to Good Hope Lutheran Church, or to a charity of one’s choice.
