HICKORY TWP., Pa. (EYT) — A Forest County man is facing criminal charges after he allegedly attempted to burglarize a house on Easter day.

Court documents indicate that Marienville-based State Police filed criminal charges against 40-year-old Matthew Ross Himelright, of West Hickory.

According to a criminal complaint, around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 1, PSP Marienville responded to a burglary in progress at a residence on Reservoir Road in Hickory Township, Forest County.

When Trooper Lantzy arrived on the scene, the known victim came outside and explained that Matthew Himelright and a known juvenile male were trying to break into her house.

She stated that Himelright was not allowed to be on the premises.

The victim told Trooper Lantzy that she saw Himelright peering through the front windows of the home and attempting to open them. She then said that Himelright and the known juvenile went around the back of the house, and she heard a loud smash. She looked down the steps to the basement and saw the juvenile standing at the bottom of the steps. She yelled, telling them to get out of her house, and then she saw the juvenile run out of basement door. She ran down to the basement and saw that her basement window was broken. She then locked the basement door and ran back upstairs to call 9-1-1, the complaint states.

A search of the area and multiple structures was conducted, with no results. During the search, Trooper Lantzy observed a broken window leading into the basement on the back side of the residence.

Trooper Lantzy requested a warrant for Himelright’s arrest, according to the complaint.

The following charges were filed against him in Magisterial District Judge Daniel L. Miller’s office on Sunday, April 1:

– Burglary — Overnight Accommodations; Person Present, Bodily Injury Crime, Felony 1
– Criminal Trespass-Break Into Structure, Felony 2
– Criminal Mischief-Damage Property, Summary

The case status is inactive.
