Forgery Charges Filed Against Franklin Woman Accused of Keeping Borrowed Truck, Stealing Debit Card

FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) — A Franklin woman is facing charges after she allegedly refused to return a vehicle she borrowed, and then also stole and used the victim’s debit card.

Court documents indicate the Franklin Police Department filed criminal charges against 32-year-old Kiah Marie Scheffer, of Franklin.

According to a criminal complaint, a known victim reported that on August 9, he granted permission for Kiah Marie Scheffer to borrow his vehicle, a black Chevrolet Silverado, under the condition she return it the next day.

Scheffer allegedly failed to return the vehicle after being asked multiple times and has been using the vehicle for her personal use since that day.

According to the complaint, on August 21, Scheffer then also stole the victim’s newly issued debit card from his mailbox and spent $2,000.00 of the victim’s money.

Scheffer was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Matthew T. Kirtland at 10;29 a.m. on Wednesday, November 6, on the following charges:

– Forgery — Unauthorized Act In Writing, Felony 2
– Theft By Unlawful Taking-Movable Property, Felony 3
– Access Device Issued to Another Who Did Not Auth Use, Felony 3
– Identity Theft, Felony 3
– Unauthorized Use Motor/Other Vehicles, Misdemeanor 2

She remains free on $10,000.00 unsecured bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on November 20, with Judge Kirtland presiding.
