LICKING TWP., Pa. (EYT) — Two Clarion County residents are facing forgery charges after the woman involved stole checks from her father.

(The above mugshots are from previous arrests; neither defendant is currently lodged in Clarion County Jail.)

Court documents indicate that on December 11, Clarion-based State Police filed criminal charges against 29-year-old Jordan River Booth and 29-year-old Christine Nicole Varner, both of Callensburg.

According to a criminal complaint, the incident started at the victim’s residence on State Route 58 in Licking Township, Clarion County. The incident then continued to a known bank in Clarion.

The complaint states that Jordon Booth and Christine Varner were at Christine’s father’s house for a visit.

At an unknown time during the visit, Varner found the victim’s extra checks in the house. She proceeded to take two checks out of the box of checks, according to the complaint.

Booth and Varner then left the victim’s house without the victim noticing the two checks missing, the complaint states.

Around July 26, the victim noticed the two checks were cashed from his bank statement. One in the amount of $200.00 and the other for $150.00, according to the complaint.

The victim explained that he did not write out the checks because he has only written about four checks in the last four years from that account.

The victim felt strongly that Booth and Varner were responsible for taking the checks since they are about the only ones who come to his house for an extended time.

On July 28, Trooper Jones made a traffic stop on Varner and Booth.

After the traffic stop, Trooper Freeman interviewed both individuals around 1:40 p.m.

According to the complaint, Varner stated, “I took the checks. We just don’t have any money. They were sitting right beside his chair. I wrote them out to Jordan, and he cashed them.”

Booth was interviewed and related the following, “She took them, and I cashed them,” the complaint states.

Based on the investigation, the following charges were filed against both defendants in Magisterial District Judge Jeffrey C. Miller’ office on December 11:

– Forgery — Alter Writing, Felony 2
– Theft By Unlawful Taking-Movable Property, Misdemeanor 3
– Theft By Deception-False Impression, Misdemeanor 1

A preliminary arraignment is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on January 7 in front of Judge Miller.
