Former Franklin Woman Identified as Victim in Erie Stabbing Death

| September 26, 2018

ERIE, Pa. (EYT) – A former Franklin woman has been identified as the victim in a fatal stabbing in Erie.

Dusty Carter, 32, of Erie and formerly of Franklin, was found dead Monday around 9:50 a.m. at a residence in the 2500 block of Wallace Street.

Carter died from a stab wound to the neck, according to Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook.

According to ErieNewsNow.com, a man who is believed to be Carter’s boyfriend was covered in blood when he ran to nearby District Judge Paul Bizzarro’s office to call 9-1-1.

Reports indicate that Judge Bizzarro rushed to the scene of the crime to help, but Carter was already deceased.

Investigators questioned the man believed to be the victim’s boyfriend for several hours before releasing him. It’s unclear if he is a suspect in Carter’s death.

Police are calling the death suspicious; however, no ruling has been made on whether or not the death is a homicide.

“All of my decisions – I have to be able to prove within a scientific and medical certainty, and this is no different, so until we get some more information, a little more investigation, I’m going to hold off on that ruling,” Cook told ErieNewsNow.com.

An autopsy was conducted Tuesday, and Cook said further investigation is necessary before the manner of death can be determined. A determination is expected to be made within a week.

The case remains under investigation by Erie Police.

Carter was a graduate of Rocky Grove Junior-Senior High School and also attended Clarion University’s Venango campus.
