PSP: Four Dead, 133 Injured in Fourth of July Holiday Crashes

HARRISBURG, Pa. (EYT) –During the three-day Fourth of July holiday driving period, which took place July 3 through July 5, state police investigated a total of 473 crashes.

The crashes resulted in 133 injuries and 4 fatalities. Fifty-nine of the crashes were alcohol related.

Troopers made 441 arrests for driving under the influence and issued 10,416 speeding citations during the holiday period. State police also cited 662 individuals for not wearing seat belts and issued citations to 225 motorists for not securing children in safety seats.

During last year’s four-day holiday driving period, eight people died and 247 others were injured in 695 crashes to which state troopers responded.

The statistics cover only those crashes investigated by state police and do not include statistics on incidents to which other law-enforcement agencies in Pennsylvania responded.
