Frank Hilliard, Jr., 88, formerly of Hawthorn, died early Friday morning, April 21, 2017, at Edgewood Heights in New Bethlehem.

Born on March 12, 1929 in Hawthorn, he was the son of the late William Frank and Nettie A. (Algoe) Hilliard.

He served is country with the United States Army during the Korean War from March 19, 1951 to December 19, 1952. He worked at Crawford Furniture Factory until his retirement.

He was a member of the Hawthorn Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder and trustee, the Hawthorn Lion’s Club, and a charter member of the Hawthorn Area Fire Department.

He served on the Hawthorn Borough Council as president, the Alcola Trinity Cemetery Board, and the Hawthorn Cemetery Board. He was a member of the Russell J. Hilliard Post # 415 VFW of New Bethlehem.

He is survived by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Helen M. Hilliard, Minnie Jane McGrath, and Mary Hiwiller, and three brothers, Sgt. Russell Hilliard, Blair Hilliard, and James Hilliard.

Visitation will be on Saturday, April 22, 2017 from 9:30 am to 11:00 am at the Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn.

The funeral service will follow at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Elder Rex Munsee officiating.

Interment will be in the Hawthorn Cemetery.

The family suggests that memorial donations may be made to the Hawthorn Presbyterian Church or the Hawthorn Area Fire Dept.
