Franklin Baseball Claims D10, Region 2 Crown with 5-4 Win Over Hickory

FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) — Franklin used a five-run second inning to beat visiting Hickory, 5-4 and claim the District 10 Region 2 baseball crown Tuesday afternoon.

Carson Wible had a two-run double in the second to start the scoring giving the Knights a 2-1 lead at the time.

Zachery Taylor followed with an RBI hit, Tyus Wood drove in a run with a fielder’s choice and Connor Rakow doubled to left to drive in the fifth run.

Those runs were enough for Franklin thanks to the pitching efforts of Kolton Banfi and Rakow.

Banfi got the win going four innings allowing four runs, three earned, on three hits and a walk while striking out three.

Rakow picked up the save going three innings allowing two hits and a walk while striking out four.

Taylor and Kaden Keely each had two hits to lead Franklin’s offense.

The win pushed the Knights record to 16-1 on the season and a perfect 8-0 in Region 2.

Franklin, winners of 15 straight, closes the regular season at Slippery Rock Wednesday.

MERCER 5, ROCKY GROVE 4

MERCER, Pa. — Mercer scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to beat Rocky Grove, 5-4.

The Orioles had tied the game at four with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh only to watch the Mustangs win the game in the bottom of the inning.

Caden Toscano was 2-for-3 for Rocky Grove, while Nick Sanner was 1-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.

Sanner took the loss going 4 2/3 innings allowing a run on three hits and a walk.

MONITEAU 15, FOREST AREA 0, 3 INNINGS

BUTLER, Pa. — Jared Lominski went 2-for-3 with a triple and four RBIs to help Moniteau defeat Forest Area, 15-0 in three innings.

Lee DeMatteis had a pair of hits including a triple and three RBIs for the Warriors with Hunter Fitzingo going 1-for-2 with a pair of runs scored and two RBIs. Chance Nagy singled, scored twice and drove in a run while Zach Smith and Dean Hershey each scored twice. Tyler McFadden had an RBI and run scored and Gage Neal scored three runs.

Mitchell McWilliams doubled for the lone hit of the game for the Fires.

DeMatteis got the win for Moniteau with five strikeouts and one allowed hit.

Bobby Dittman took the loss for Forest Area.
