Franklin Boys Cruise Past Iroquois, Oil City Fall in Overtime in D10 Playoffs

FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) – Franklin outscored visiting Iroquois 28-7 in the third quarter to turn a two-point halftime lead into an 80-52 blowout win in the opening round of the District 10 Class 3A playoffs Friday night.

The Knights led 31-29 at halftime before the third-quarter explosion.

Tyus Wood led Franklin with a game-high 25 points, Dalton Buckley added 16 points, Ian Haynes had 11 and Scottie Walters nine.

Josh Pachell led Iroquois with 22 points with Trenton King chipping in 13.

Franklin will take on Mercyhurst Prep in the quarterfinals Friday, Feb. 22, at a time and place to be announced.

GEORGE JUNIOR REPUBLIC 68, OIL CITY 67, OVERTIME

GROVE CITY, Pa. – For three quarters, Oil City looked in total control at George Junior Republic in the opening round of the District 10 Class 4A playoffs, but the Tigers rallied from an 11-point deficit after three quarters to force overtime and then went on to beat the visiting Oilers, 68-67.

Oil City led three-win George Junior 44-33 going to the fourth quarter but was outscored 30-19 in the quarter and then 5-4 in overtime.

Preston Currie had a monster night with 35 points for the Tigers while Bryan Peachlum added 10 and Ronnell Ross eight.

Holden Stahl and Luke Homer each scored 15 points for Oil City with DeMarco Francis adding 14 and Hunter Haun nine.

George Junior will take on Titusville in the quarterfinals Thursday at a site and time to be determined.
