Franklin Candidates Forum to be Held Thursday

VOTEFRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) — Franklin voters will be able to hear what the candidates have to say at Thursday evening’s Candidates Forum.

It begins at 6:30 p.m. and will held at the New Life Family Worship Center, 100 East Atlantic Avenue.

Among the candidates running in the May 16 primary are those for mayor, city council, and school board.

Event organizer and moderator Denise Jones said candidates that are running unopposed will be able to give a short presentation.

“The candidates who are opposed will give opening and closing statements, and in between, they will be asked three questions,” Jones said. “If there is time after the candidates question and answer, members of the audience can ask questions.”

Jones will be joined by fellow moderator Lora Adams-King, the Superintendent at Farrell Area School District.

For school board, there are eight candidates running, and all of them have cross filed on the Democratic and the Republican tickets. They include Major Smith, Brian M. Spaid, John R. Phillips II, Veronica Santee, Tracey Leyda, Jaimi E. Hajzus, David Graham, and Ron Richburg.

In the mayoral race, there are two candidates on the Republican ticket. They are Doug Baker and Ryan Witherup Rudegeair.

For a four-year term on city council, on the Republican ticket, there are three candidates – Samuel L. Lyons, Michael C. Dulaney. and Donna Fletcher. One Democrat, James Johnson is running.

For a two-year term on city council in District 3, Jane A. Dlugos is running on the Democratic ticket, and Fred Mays is running on the Republican ticket.
