| May 28, 2017

ERIE, Pa. (EYT) – Tyra Campbell tossed a five-hit shutout while also picking up two hits of her own on offense, as Northwestern blanked Franklin, 7-0, in the District 10 Class 3A softball semifinals Saturday at Penn State Behrend.

Campbell was locked in a scoreless pitcher’s duel with the Knights Gracie Stryffeler until the fourth when Northwestern broke through with a two-spot. That started a string of three straight innings that saw the Wildcats score multiple runs including another two-spot in the fifth and a three-spot in the sixth to put the game away.

Defense let Franklin down with the Knights being charged with five errors leading to a pair of unearned runs and extra outs for Northwestern.

Kelli Stevens and Erika DePalma both scored twice for the Wildcats, while DePalma added an RBI. Emmalee Sherman was 2-for-3 with an RBI, Katie Troutman was 2-for-3 with a run scored and Abby Camp also drove in a run.

Meghan Haynes paced Franklin going 2-for-3.

Stryffeler, who was charged with seven runs, five earned, on 10 hits and two walks while striking out three, had a hit on offense for the Knights as did Skylynn Jolley and McKenzie Shook.

Northwestern will face Titusville, a 4-2 winner over Hickory, in the title game at 10 a.m. Monday at Behrend.
