Geer was recently named to The Open Mat .com’s 2017 NCAA Wrestling Division I All-Freshman Team. Rider accounted for the other two league awards, with Chad Walsh selected the EWL Wrestler of the Year, and Gary Taylor the EWL Coach of the Year.

Edinboro has now captured at least one of the three major EWL postseason awards for 12 straight years.

A true freshman, Geer finished the year with a 31-10 record with 2 falls, a team-leading 8 technical falls, and 5 major decisions. He was the Eastern Wrestling League champion at 184 lbs., earning a trip to the NCAA Division I National Championships.

He went into Nationals as the 14th seed and finish at 2-2. He posted a 17-0 technical fall (5:62) over Zach Nevills of Stanford in his first NCAA match, before losing by fall to third-seed Sammy Brooks of Iowa in the second round. He came back with a 3-0 decision over Hunter Ritter of Wisconsin in his next match but had the misfortune of facing another top seed in his second consolation bout, losing to Myles Martin of Ohio State, the sixth seed, by a 12-3 score.

Geer won all three of his matches at the EWL Championships, including a 6-3 decision in the finals over Cleveland State’s Nick Corba. He also won his first PSAC title with a 5-3 decision over Clarion’s Scott Marmoll. In addition, Geer finished fourth at the Southern Scuffle and won the Southeast Open championship in the freshman/sophomore division.
