FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) – A 27-year-old man who admitted to transmitting child pornography from his Franklin apartment is due in court this week.

Court documents indicate 27-year-old Brian Christopher Griffin, of Franklin, is scheduled to stand for a preliminary hearing in front of Magisterial District Judge Matthew T. Kirtland at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 14, on the following charges:

  • Disseminating Photo/Film of Child Sex Acts, Felony 3 (50 counts)
  • Criminal Use Of Communication Facility, Felony 3

The charges stem from an investigation into a “CyperTip” from the file-hosting company DropBox.

According to a criminal complaint filed at Magisterial District Judge Matthew T. Kirtland’s office, the SCI North West Computer Crime Task Force served a search warrant at Griffin’s Liberty Street apartment on July 13 around 1:19 p.m. after they received a “CyberTip” from the file-hosting company DropBox.

The tip indicated that child pornography had been uploaded to their servers from an account associated with Griffin’s email address.

“Members of the BCI North West Computer Crime Unit were able to establish probable cause that the child pornography was uploaded from the address of 203 Liberty Street, Apt 1, City of Franklin, Venango County,” according to the criminal complaint.

Trooper Streyle said Griffin was interviewed at his residence and gave a full confession to possessing and uploading the child pornography using DropBox.

Griffin was arraigned on Tuesday, July 30, in front of Magisterial District Judge Matthew T. Kirtland.

He was lodged in the Venango County Jail on $25,000.00 cash bail.

He was released on Wednesday, July 31, on a surety posted by a professional bondsman.
