FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) — The preliminary hearing for a Franklin man accused of cutting off his ankle monitoring bracelet was waived last week in District Judge Matthew Kirtland’s office.

According to court documents, Venango County District Attorney’s Office filed criminal charges against 24-year-old Marquise Lamar McCool, of Franklin, for “willfully conceal(ing) himself…with the intent to avoid apprehension or punishment after he was convicted and sentenced.”

This case has been transferred to the Venango County Court of Common Pleas. It is working its way through the court system.

Details of the case

According to a criminal complaint, McCool was placed on a GPS ankle monitoring bracelet, and he cut it off on March 31, 2017.

McCool eluded police until Franklin City Police Lt. Campbell located and arrested him around 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 2, the complaint states.

He was charged with Flight to Avoid Apprehension/Punishment.

Bail was denied.

He remains lodged in the Venango County Jail.

McCool was originally sentenced to serve time and probation after he pleaded guilty to harassment related to a February 6, 2016 incident.

His re-sentencing is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on July 10 with Judge Robert L. Boyer presiding.
