Franklin Man Accused of DUI with Toddler in Vehicle

FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) – A Franklin man is facing child endangerment and DUI charges after allegedly driving under the influence with a three-year-old child in his vehicle.

Court documents indicate the Franklin Police Department filed criminal charges against 22-year-old Jacob Daniel Miller, of Franklin.

According to a criminal complaint, around 7:41 p.m. on Monday, April 9, Officer Young received a report of a male who was possibly intoxicated and driving on Taylor Street striking a curb and then stumbling into his residence.

Officers arrived on the scene and spoke with witnesses who described the male – later identified as Jacob Miller.

The criminal complaint states that officers made contact with Miller and noted that he showed multiple signs of impairment, including slow and uncoordinated movement, slurred speech, difficulty maintaining balance, and the odor of an alcoholic beverage. Standardized field sobriety tests were conducted and showed further signs of impairment and possible use of a controlled substance.

According to the complaint, Miller allegedly admitted to driving with his three-year-old daughter in the vehicle
from his grandfather’s home to his residence on Taylor Street in Franklin within the previous 20 to 30 minutes.

Based on the investigation, the following charges were filed against Miller on Thursday, April 12, in Magisterial District Judge Matthew T. Kirtland’s office:

– Endangering the Welfare of Children – Parent/Guardian/Other Commits Offense, Felony 2
– DUI: General Impairment/Incompetent of Driving Safely – 1st Offense, Misdemeanor
– DUI: Highest Rate of Alcohol (BAC .16+) 1st Offense, Misdemeanor

He is currently awaiting a preliminary hearing.
