SUGARCREEK, Pa. (EYT) – A Franklin man waived his preliminary hearing this week on charges that stem from a domestic incident where he allegedly put a woman in a headlock.

According to court documents, the following charges against 35-year-old Dillon M. Wyant, of Franklin, were waived for court on Wednesday, September 5:

– Strangulation – Applying Pressure to Throat or Neck, Felony 2
– Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2
– Harassment – Subject Other to Physical Contact, Summary

The charges have been transferred to the Venango County Court of Common Pleas.

Wyant’s bail was decreased from $25,000.00 monetary to $15,000.00 unsecured bail, and he was released from Venango County Jail on September 5.

Details of the case:

According to a criminal complaint, around 10:47 on Thursday, August 30, Sugarcreek Borough Police Officers were dispatched to a residence on Murdock Street in the village of Rocky Grove for a report of a domestic incident in progress.

The officers made contact with a known woman who stated the individuals involved were in the back bedroom of the residence. She reported that she had heard the female involved yell, “Get off of me” and “Don’t you hit me.”

Officers then made contact with another known woman, who stated that while she was in the back room with Dillon Wyant, they had been arguing.

According to the complaint, when questioned by Officer Highfield, the woman admitted that the argument had turned physical, and stated she had struck Wyant, and he had put her in a headlock and squeezed his arm to put pressure on her neck and throat.

The complaint notes that Officer Highfield observed red marks on the victim’s neck.

Officer Highfield also questioned Wyant.

According to the complaint, Wyant said that the victim had hit him, so he defended himself by pushing her off of him. When Officer Highfield asked him about putting the victim in a headlock, Wyant stated, “Yeah, I did do that,” and also said they had both been hitting each other.

Wyant was then taken into custody and placed in the officers’ patrol vehicle.

He was arraigned at 1:00 a.m. on Friday, August 31, in Magisterial District Judge Andrew F. Fish’s office.
