Franklin Man Arrested for Alleged DUI After Falling Asleep at Wheel

FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) – Franklin Police say a suspected DUI arrest was made around 1:11 p.m. on May 25, on Pone Lane, near Red Express, in the City of Franklin, Venango County.

Police say they received multiple reports of an erratic driver who had fallen asleep behind the wheel at Red Express on Pone Lane.

It was also reported that a white Mitsubishi Eclipse had struck the curb and hit a sign at the McDonald’s on 13th St. in Franklin.

Once the traffic stop was completed, police say they found 37-year-old Adam James Coxson, of Franklin, to be allegedly under the influence of alcohol.

Coxson was placed under arrest and transported to the City of Franklin Police Department where chemical testing was conducted, according to police.

Coxson’s vehicle was seized and later searched when a warrant was granted by Magistrate Kirtland, police say.

The search allegedly resulted in more paraphernalia and controlled substances being found, police say.

During the investigation, police say Coxson was found to be out on bail for a previous DUI arrest.

He was taken in front of District Magistrate Kirtland and arraigned at 6:45 p.m. on May 25 on the following charges:

  • DUI: Controlled Substance — Schedule 1 — 1st Offense
  • DUI: Controlled Substance — Impaired Ability — 1st Offense
  • DUI: Gen Imp/Inc of Driving Safely — 1st Offense
  • Intentional Possession Controlled Substance By Person Not Registered
  • Use/Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia (three counts)
  • Careless Driving

Coxson was released on $4,500.00 unsecured bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on June 1.
