FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) — A Franklin man is accused of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, according to police.

According to police, 25-year-old Shawn McDonald, of Franklin, faces one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child following a report and subsequent investigation of a two-year-old child being found alone in the 11th Street playground.

Police say the incident occurred around 12:40 p.m. on May 24 when a child was allegedly observed alone by members of Community Ambulance Service who were concerned for his safety and welfare and who cared for and protected the child until the arrival of police.

The investigation determined that the child allegedly walked out of his home while the father slept, and without the father’s knowledge, according to police.

It was also determined that this type of occurrence allegedly happened on at least two prior occasions and no corrective action had been taken to insure it did not happen again, police say.

McDonald will receive a summons to appear on the charge of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
