RENO, Pa. (EYT) — A Franklin man is headed to court on Simple Assault charges stemming from an alleged incident in late September.

Sugarcreek Police say a Franklin man has been charged with Simple Assault and Harassment following an incident that allegedly occurred around 9:18 a.m. on September 27, on Second Street in Reno, Venango County.

According to a Criminal Complaint, 44-year-old Rex Heckathorn, of Franklin, has been charged with the following offenses:

– Simple Assault
– Harassment — Subject Other to Physical Contact

Documents state that Heckathorn allegedly pushed/shoved two victims — a 52-year-old male and a 25-year-old female — on several occasions, which caused pain and bruising in the back. He also allegedly grabbed a holstered Glock firearm, on his right hip, in a menacing manner.

The Criminal Complaint also indicates that Heckathorn allegedly threatened and or attempted to do the same by pushing, shoving, and throwing objects at both victims.

According to Sugarcreek Police, officers believed there was probable cause to substantiate the above charges due to observations while at the scene, along with statements received identifying Heckathorn and his alleged acts committed.

Police say one firearm was seized.

Bail was set at $75,000.00 unsecured.

Hecakathorn waived his preliminary hearing and the case was transferred to the Court of Common Pleas.

The case continues to make its way through the system.
