PITTSBURGH, Pa. (EYT) — A Franklin man has been sentenced in the 2014 stabbing death of a man in Pittsburgh’s North Side.

According to court documents, on November 24, 2015, 31-year-old David Umstead, of Franklin, was sentenced to 20 to 40 years in prison for third-degree murder of Delrio Ivy.

Previously, exploreVenango.com reported that Umstead was on the run from a halfway house related to a DUI charge when police say on August 29, 2014, he stabbed Ivy in the neck, chest, and arms.

He was later arrested and police were able to identify him on a surveillance video attacking Ivy.

Umstead allegedly told police he was going to buy drugs from Ivy on the night in question, but Ivy tried to rob him, cutting him with a knife first before Umstead acted in self-defense.

Sources say Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge Beth Lazzara handed down an additional sentence for escape. Umstead was ordered to serve 16 to 32 months for that offense.
