OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) — A Franklin Area Middle School teacher is behind bars after being charged with multiple felonies stemming from an alleged sexual relationship with a 13-year-old girl.

Kyle Stanley Askins, 25, of Franklin, was jailed Monday on the following charges:

  • IDSI Person Less Than 16 Years Age, Felony 1
  • Statutory Sexual Assault: 4-8 Years Older, Felony 2

According to Franklin-based State Police Corporal Bunyak, the investigation was initiated after police were contacted about a 13-year-old female victim who left her residence in the middle of the night on August 1, 2016.

Police believe Askins picked the victim up at or near her home that night and took her to an East 3rd Street residence in Oil City.

Further investigation revealed that Askins was allegedly involved in a sexual relationship with the victim.

Askins allegedly engaged in sexual intercourse with the victim on eight known occasions, according to police.

It’s unclear if the victim is a student at Franklin Area Middle School.

Askins was arraigned Monday before District Judge Patrick Lowrey and placed in the Venango County Jail after failing to post $100,000 cash bail.

He faces a preliminary hearing on May 10 at 8:30 a.m. in Venango County Central Court.

Due to the nature of the allegations, Askins has been placed on administrative leave by Franklin Area School District.

Askins is a middle school Physical Education and Health teacher, according to Franklin Area School District’s website.

Calls to the school for comment were not immediately returned.
