Franklin Onsets Teams Fare Well at Slippery Rock Tournament

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — On October 21, 30 Franklin students competed in the Onsets tournament at Slippery Rock University.

The students were from fourth through tenth grade.

Students competed in three different divisions; elementary, middle, and junior divisions. In the elementary division, the Franklin teams finished in third, sixth, and eighth places in the field of twenty one teams representing more than 25 school districts. In the middle division, Franklin finished in sixth place.

The best finish of the day belonged to Franklin’s junior division team, the Franklinsteins. The five player team featuring Adam Taylor, Trevor Wood, Sam Burchfield, Kiaran Rios, and Tyler Weiss mounted a concerted effort to finish first in their division. The five players combined for 81 points of a possible 90 and beating their nearest opponent by 6 points.

Undefeated players, those with scores of 17 or 18 were recognized with certificates. Franklin students achieving this feat included: Trevor Wood (18), Kiaran Rios (18), Adam Taylor (17), Middle division players, David Ferraro (18) and Tyler Wood (17), and elementary division player Christina Bullard (17).

The next competition will be Propaganda.
