Franklin Teen Flown to UPMC Hamot Following One-Car Crash on Utica Road

UTICA BORO, Pa. (EYT) – Franklin-based State Police responded to a one-car crash that occurred on July 24, on Utica Road in Utica Borough, Venango County.

According to police, around 5:37 p.m. on July 24, 18-year-old Raymond E. Smith III, of Franklin, was traveling north on Utica Road, just north of Stevens Road, when he failed to negotiate a right-hand curve in the roadway. Smith reportedly lost control of the 2002 Dodge Ram 2500 and crossed the roadway, striking an embankment off the western side.

The vehicle then rolled onto its roof and came to a final stop.

Smith and a passenger — 18-year-old Kristina A. Hartle, of Franklin, were not wearing seat belts during the accident.

Smith was transported to UPMC Northwest with suspected minor injuries.

Hartle was flown to UPMC Hamot with suspected moderate injuries.

Smith was charged with a driving traffic violation.

Utica Volunteer Fire Department, Utica Ambulance, and Community Ambulance assisted on the scene.
