FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) — A Franklin woman is facing aggravated assault and related charges after allegedly attacking another woman with a knife in Franklin on Tuesday morning.

Court documents indicate the Franklin Police Department filed criminal charges against 28-year-old Brandi Nicole Sloss, of Franklin.

According to a criminal complaint, around 7:21 a.m. on Tuesday, August 28, Patrolman Barnes, of the Franklin Police Department, was dispatched to a residence on 14th Street for a report of an “out of control” female. While en route, officers were advised that the female had been identified by a 9-1-1 caller as Brandi Sloss and that Sloss may have a pocket knife in her possession.

After arriving at the scene, Patrolman Barnes made contact with a known female victim who had multiple injuries, including contusions and scrapes to her face, the complaint states.

The victim reported that after a night of drinking, she and Sloss returned to the home they shared, and a short time later, Sloss became angry with her about financial issues. The victim said Sloss then attacked her, punching her multiple times in the face. The victim also admitted to defending herself during the attack and stated that following the initial assault, she went to her room and locked the door to keep Sloss away, according to the complaint.

The victim said she slept for a short time, then got up, and when she left her room, she discovered Sloss was still awake and still angry. She said Sloss became even angrier when she was unable to find her glasses. She reported that Sloss attacked her again as she tried to leave the house. During the second attack, the victim said Sloss produced a knife and tried to stab her with it. She told the officers that she received a cut to her right arm during the assault, the complaint indicates.

The complaint notes that Patrolman Barnes examined the injury and found it to be consistent with a defensive wound caused by a knife.

The victim also stated that Sloss always carried the knife as a means of self-defense, according to the complaint.

Sloss was taken into custody at the scene. She allegedly made a statement admitting to fighting with the victim. She told officers that the victim had hit her, but also said she didn’t want her to get into trouble, the complaint states.

The complaint also notes officers observed that Sloss had a small cut on the inside webbing of the pinky on her left hand, an injury known to officers to be consistent with an offensive injury commonly found when a knife is used as a weapon.

Sloss was arraigned at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 28, in Magisterial District Judge Matthew T. Kirtland’s office on the following charges:

• Aggravated Assault, Felony 1
• Aggravated Assault, Felony 2
• Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2 (two counts)
• Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Misdemeanor 2

Unable to post $10,000.00 monetary bail, she was lodged in the Venango County Jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 5, with Judge Kirtland presiding.
