Franklin Woman Waives Hearing on Theft Charges

SUGARCREEK, Pa. (EYT) — A Franklin woman accused of stealing an electronic tablet waived her preliminary hearing this week.

According to court documents, the following charges against 67-year-old Berea Lynn Smith, of Franklin, were waived for court on Wednesday, August 15:

– Theft By Unlawful Taking-Movable Property, Misdemeanor 2
– Receiving Stolen Property, Misdemeanor 2

Charges have been transferred to the Venango County Court of Common Pleas.

Smith remains free on $1,000.00 unsecured bail.

Details of the case:

According to a criminal complaint, Lieutenant Baker was advised that Berea Smith had stolen a “Notepad 8.0, Silver Titan” from a known victim on November 29, 2017.

The complaint states that during an interview, Smith admitted to having the device and turned it over to Lieutenant Baker.

Based on the investigation, charges were filed against Smith in Magisterial District Judge Patrick E. Lowrey’s office on Tuesday, July 24.
