FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) — A Franklin woman is facing theft charges after she allegedly took money she was supposed to deposit for her employer.

Court documents indicate the Franklin Police Department filed criminal charges against 29-year-old Stephanie Renay Myers, of Franklin.

According to a criminal complaint, around 1:48 p.m. on Thursday, March 15, the District Manager for a local business appeared at the Franklin Police Department to report a possible employee theft of $591.12 from the Franklin store.

On February 28, 2018, the employee — Stephanie Myers — was to have made four deposits at a local bank and she was advised by the corporate office that only three deposits were made. The District Manager stated that Myers had sent photos of all four deposits; however, the missing deposit of $591.12 was photographed with a bank receipt that belonged to a different deposit.

Around 1:07 p.m. on Friday, March 16, Officer Harrah interviewed Myers at the Franklin Police Department.

Myers allegedly admitted to Patrolman Harrah that on Friday, February 23, she was working and took the deposit of $591.12 from the safe. Myers stated that she had intended on repaying the money and forgot about it until she was asked to make other deposits on February 28. Myers stated that on the date she made the deposits, she attempted to cover up the fact that she took the money by sending a picture with a deposit slip with a bank deposit receipt belonging to a different deposit, according to the complaint.

Based on the investigation, one count of misdemeanor Theft By Unlawful Taking-Movable Property was filed on Tuesday, March 20, in Magisterial District Judge Matthew T. Kirtland’s office.

Myers is currently awaiting a preliminary hearing.
