Fred Kelso JrFred E. Kelso, Jr., age 82, of Brookville, PA, passed away at the Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA, on Wednesday, May 3, 2017.

Fred was born in Brookville, PA, on March 7, 1935, to the late Fred E. Sr., and Mildred (Foulks) Kelso.

He attended and graduated from the Brookville High School with the class of 1953.

He also served his country in the United States Army, from which he was honorably discharged. On October 7, 1956, he married Martha “Anne” (Park) Kelso, in Stanton, PA; they have been together for over 60 years, and Anne survives him.

Fred was a farmer all of his life.

He was also a 3rd generation Butcher and he had the Kelso Family Meat Market, of which he operated for over 37 years.

After his retirement in 1989, Fred continued to help other local family owned meat markets.

He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Brookville, PA, Hobah Lodge # 276 in Brookville, Trout Unlimited, Sigel Sportsman’s Club, and the Brookville Rifle Team.

Fred was very proud of his vegetable garden and he shared all the food her grew with friends and family; he loved having the first ripe tomatoes of the season. He enjoyed hunting and fly-fishing and his favorite fishing hole is located in Potter County.

Fred liked spending time at Camp Finally in Cook Forest where his entire family has made memories for many years.

He had the skill of woodworking and he made many things, he was most notably known for the beautiful wood bowls he created.

He would give these away as gifts and also they were sold at a few different consignment shops.

He would also carve soapstone, of which he gave as gifts as well.

After his retirement, he enjoyed reading, and he would read every day. He mostly read “Manly Books” which included topics like War, Mysteries, and Espionage. Fred also liked to travel, and his favorite place to go was Maui; He loved being there with his wife and extended family.

In addition to his wife Anne, Fred is survived by 1 daughter; Cindy Montgomery of Erie, PA; A set of twin sisters, Connie Borden of Brookville, PA, and Carol (Guy) Baughman of Warren, PA; 1 granddaughter; Brandes (Nate) O’Connell of McKean, PA; 1 great-grandson; Hudson N. O’Connell of McKean, PA; 1 sister-in-law; Lucy (Jerry) Hepler of Anchorage, AK; as well as 5 nieces and 2 nephews.

Family and friends will be received on Saturday, May 6, 2017, from 1 — 4pm and 5 — 8pm at the Mckinney — d’Argy Funeral Home, ltd, 345 Main St., Brookville, PA, 15825.

A second day of viewing will take place on Sunday, May 7, 2017, from 1 — 4pm and 5- 8pm also at the funeral home, with a Masonic service beginning at 7:00pm.

A funeral service will be held Monday, May 8, 2017, at the funeral home, beginning at 11:00am, and officiated by Rev. Nathan Royster.

Full military honors will take place during the service.

Interment will take place at the Roseville — Bethel Cemetery, Union Twp., Jefferson Co., PA.
