SMALLEYfredrickjohnThe gentle soul of Fredrick John Smalley, 55, of Dempseytown entered into rest at his residence on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 after a fall due to a cardiac event.

He was born August 21, 1959 in Oil City a beloved son of Billy O. and Shirley I. Deeter Smalley.

He graduated from Oil City High School in 1978.

He attended the Mount Carmel Tabernacle in Dempseytown.

Fred started working for Penn Line Tree Service and Asplundh Tree Service. He was transferred to Durham, CT where he was a top climber and crew foreman. Fred received many awards for excellence and private recommendations for his abilities in his field. He returned back to Dempseytown in 2007 to his family homestead following an injury. He continued to do private jobs until he became disabled.

Fred always enjoyed and respected the outdoors. He loved to fish and could hardly wait for the opening day of trout season. He loved to hunt, and many a Pennsylvania deer wished they hadn’t come into his sights.

Fred was always willing to help others. He couldn’t pass a Salvation Army kettle without contributing, because he always knew the importance of giving.

He is survived by his dearest and only daughter, Nicole Boyles and her husband Randy of Titusville.

Also surviving are his siblings: Patricia Hunt and her husband William of Wallaceville, Mary Kellogg and her husband Arthur of Dempseytown, Betty Winters of Chambersburg, Thomas Smalley of Masaryktown, FL, Robert Smalley of Titusville and Brenda Niederriter and her husband Fred of Venus; in addition to many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in by his brother: Gary Owen Smalley.

Friends may call Monday 10AM until 12 NOON in the Mount Carmel Tabernacle of Dempseytown; where funeral services will be conducted Monday at 12 NOON with Pastor Dana Lewis, officiating.

Interment will be in Lamey Cemetery.
