Friday’s Football Recaps: Franklin Gets Win; Oil City Shutout

FRANKLIN 21, BRASHEAR 7

FRANKLIN, Pa. – Vince Greco scored a touchdown and also blocked a field goal to help Franklin to a season-opening 21-7 win over defending Pittsburgh City League champion Brashear Friday night in Franklin.

Greco, who ran for 141 yards, scored on a 7-yard run in the third quarter to extend an 8-7 halftime lead into a 14-7 lead three minutes into the second half. He then blocked a Brashear field goal attempt to keep the score the same. Greco also had a fumble recovery.

Brendon Gordon also scored for Franklin on a 15-yard pass from Ian Haynes, and Tyler Jones recovered a loose ball in the end zone to finish off the scoring.

Haynes threw for 120 yards and a touchdown while also throwing a pair of interceptions. Gordon had three grabs for 52 yards and ran for 27 more.

Phil Bappier scored the Bulldogs lone touchdown on a 9-yard pass from Sha’rron Steave, who threw for 147 yards and ran fro 12.

CORRY 20, OIL CITY 0

CORRY, Pa. – Corry’s defense was too much for Oil City, as the Beavers limited the Oilers new ground-oriented attack to under 200 yards of total offense and scoring twice in getting a season-opening 20-0 win over the the visitors.

Oil City managed just 196 yards of offense with Noah Petro and Josh Puleo combining for 118 of those yards including 70 by Petro and 48 by Puleo, 43 on the ground

Corry’s defense, meanwhile, returned a pair of Oil City fumbles for touchdowns with Kyle Hurd going 30 yards for a score and Brady Davis 50 yards for a score. Davis also caught a 35-yard touchdown pass from Bryce Xander, who threw for 180 yards. Davis had five catches for 101 yards.
