VENANGO CO. Pa. (EYT) — With a wind chill warning still in effect and frigid temperatures prevailing, the good news is the cold blast is almost over.

According to Michael Brown of the National Weather Service Pittsburgh, while today’s weather is still frigid, the extreme cold and wind chill we’ve been experiencing in our area will not last.

“It’s going to be rather cold the next few days, but then we will start seeing a slow warming trend,” Brown said.

While today’s temperature is forecast to top out at just five degrees with wind chills as low as -30, and the low temperature overnight should drop back down to around -3, the wind is expected to die down a bit overnight, bringing the wind chill up to -14.

“Temperatures are going to begin rising and the wind will relax,” Brown noted.

According to Brown, there is a slight chance of snow flurries overnight into Friday morning, with a possibility of less than an inch of accumulation.

Friday’s weather looks somewhat more promising, with a high near 20 degrees and light, variable wind leaving the wind chill around -7. Friday night’s low is expected to bottom out at 11 degrees.

The real change begins over the weekend.

“This weekend we do expect warmer air to come into the region, with temperatures in the 30s Saturday, and temperatures in the 40s Sunday. By next week, we might see temperatures hitting 50 for a day or two,” Brown said.

Saturday is expected to be partly sunny with a high near 37, and a 20% chance of rain after 3:00 p.m. The temperature should drop down to around 30 degrees overnight Saturday night.

There’s 30% chance of rain and snow on Sunday morning, before 9:00 a.m., with mostly cloudy skies, but the high will jump up to 47 degrees. Overnight Sunday night, the low expected to fall to 36 degrees.

Heading into next week, Monday is looking mostly cloudy with a 40% chance of rain and a high topping out around 52 degrees. The temperature is expected to drop back down around 38 degrees overnight, with a 50% chance of rain heading into Tuesday.

A 30% chance of rain remains throughout the day Tuesday, with mostly cloudy skies and a high around 47 degrees. The temperature is expected to bottom out around 36 degrees overnight Tuesday night with a 40% chance of some overnight precipitation, possibly a rain and snow mix.
