SENECA, Pa. (EYT) — A fundraising site has been established for a Seneca couple who were seriously injured in a two-vehicle accident on Tuesday, June 13, on State Route 66 in Paint Township, Clarion County.

Ben and Melinda Carbaugh, the parents of two young daughters — Vivian and Meredith, were traveling on a motorcycle north when a car pulled in front of them. Both individuals were ejected from the bike and suffered severe injuries.

They were taken by emergency helicopters from LifeFlight and STAT MedEvac to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh where they had surgery and are receiving treatment.

Currently, more than 120 donors have committed over $12,000.00 to the family at https://www.youcaring.com/benmelindacarbaugh-849115.

According to a June 16 post on the site, Melinda’s mother explained that Ben was treated for a bleeding brain injury and extensive damage to his arm.

The brain injury is under control, and pins have been used to put together his left elbow and right thumb.

Melinda is undergoing treatment for a skull fracture, lacerated liver, and a spinal injury.

Her mother reported she had successful surgery.  Rods and screws were inserted to support her spine. The T6 and T7 vertebra were crushed and have been replaced by blocks and spacers. Melinda did not have any cords severed, and while she can’t feel her legs or toes, she has been able to wiggle her hips in bed, and her doctor is optimistic.

She was able to sit upright in a lift chair with a lumbar brace.

Ben and Melinda have said “thank you” for the prayers and support from the community.

Both will miss work for an undetermined amount of time and have no source of income.

Vivian will begin kindergarten in the fall, and Meredith will celebrate her second birthday at the end of July.
