Death leaves heartache difficult to heal. Love leaves memories difficult to steal.

Gary Duane Neal, 65, of Grand Valley, passed away February 28, 2015, at his home, in the company of his friends and his beloved dog, Freedom.

Born October 4, 1949, Gary was the oldest of eight boys born to Oren and D. Frances Neal of Hadley. Gary graduated from Commodore Perry High School in 1968 and soon joined the Army’s 101st Airborne Division.

After boot camp, he was deployed and fought in Vietnam where he received injuries resulting in him returning home.

Gary was very proud of his military service and was an avid supporter of our Armed Forces, past and present.

In death, Gary will be reunited with his son Matthew D. Neal whom he mourned and loved deeply. He was also preceded in death by his father Oren Neal, his younger brother Ron Neal, along with relatives and friends whom he loved and missed.

Gary will be remembered for his kind, giving and gentle nature. He loved his friends and family and looked forward to being a grandparent.

He enjoyed any time spent with his loved ones.

Gary was also an avid hunter and outdoors man.

Gary was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Gary will be deeply missed by his daughter Jaime Neal-Riddle and her husband Andrew Riddle, of Franklin, his mother Della Frances Neal, and his surviving siblings, Robert, John, Daryl and wife Doris, Oren Jr., Harry and Fred Neal of Hadley; many nieces, nephews and extended family members, the Doyle family of Cochranton, the Ausel family of Kennerdell, the Shields, Bowen, and Perret families of Franklin, the Wrights and Johnson families of Grand Valley, all those who enjoyed spending time with him at hunting camp and countless friends with whom he shared his life.

Family and friends may call Thursday beginning at 4 p.m. at the Timothy E. Hartle Funeral Home, 1328 Elk Street, Franklin; where funeral services will be conducted at 5:30 p.m.

In honor of Gary’s service to his country, full military honors will be accorded, immediately following the funeral services at the funeral home by the members of the V.E.T.S. Funeral Honor Guard of Franklin.

Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made in his name to your local VFW or Veterans Organization.
