Gene Homan Schlosser, 82, was called to heaven to be with his beloved wife, Jean, on Friday, February 17, 2017.

He passed peacefully at the Marquette Hospice House in Meadville, PA, surrounded by family, living his remaining two months to its fullest in the face of a terminal Leukemia diagnosis.

Gene was born on July 26, 1934 to Ralph Schlosser and Gladys (Tracy) Schlosser in Titusville, PA.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Sallaway Schlosser and his brother-in-law, John (Bill) Sallaway.

He graduated from Titusville High School class of 1952. He then graduated from Slippery Rock State College with a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education.

Later he would attend the University of Pittsburg to obtain a certificate in Physical Therapy.

In college, he was a member of the Slippery Rock’s varsity basketball team, and track and field team.

Gene volunteered for the draft, after his sophomore year in college, and entered the Army 1954-1956 and was discharged at the rank of Corporal. During his service he was a member of his regiment’s traveling softball and track and field teams. After his service he returned to college to complete his education.

Gene married Jean Sallaway on December 28, 1960 in Titusville.

Gene became a Physical Education teacher at Titusville High School, where he coached track and field and basketball.

After completing his Physical Therapy certificate, he moved to Williamsport, PA to work at the Williamsport Hospital.

In 1974, Gene moved back to Pleasantville, PA to work at the Titusville Hospital as the head of Physical Therapy.

He later worked for the Oil City Hospital before opening this own practice, Oil City Physical Therapy. Gene will always be remembered for his generous support of Titusville High School sports teams, providing free rehabilitation services to dozens of injured athletes.

Gene was elected to the Titusville High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 1994.

Gene was a life-long member of St. James Episcopal Church, in Titusville. Both Gene and Jean were active members of many outreach programs with the church and vestry. Their presence in the church will be greatly missed.

Gene was most proud of his family. He adored his wife Jean and three children, Steven, Thomas and Amy.

He also enjoyed attending various sporting and performing art events of his grandchildren. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing bridge, mowing his lawn, and golf.

He was an avid hunter and immensely enjoyed his two trips to Montana to hunt elk.

He was a life-long Cleveland Browns and Pittsburg Pirates fan.

He also derived much joy from the many dogs he owned throughout his life, most recently a golden doodle named Reilly.

He is survived by his children, son Steven Schlosser, his wife Heidi and two granddaughters, Tara and Megan; son Thomas Schlosser, his wife Anne and three grandchildren, Patrick, Lily-Jean and Virginia; and daughter Amy Stone, her husband Thomas. His sister, Barbara Davidson, of Pleasantville, PA and her family, Mike, Tracy, Lori, Beth, Nan and Mandy. He is also survived by numerous other nephews and nieces.

Family and friends may attend a memorial service at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 11, 2017 at St. James Memorial Episcopal Church 112 E. Main St. Titusville with Rev. Canon Martha Ishman as celebrant.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be made to the St. James Memorial Memorial Episcopal Church 112 E. Main Street, Titusville, PA 16354.
