George-OlmesGeorge A. “Gus” Olmes, Jr., 85, of 16 Fisher Ave, Oil City, died at 1:25 am, Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at Oakwood Heights in Oil City.

Born October 11, 1931 in Oil City, he was a son of the late George Augustus Olmes, Sr. and Frances Isabelle McKinley Olmes.

Gus was a graduate of Oil City High School.

He served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict.

Gus retired from National Fuel.

He was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church for 74 years.

Gus enjoyed all Pittsburgh sports teams.

He was first married to the former Jean F. Guichard on December 8, 1952, who preceded him in death on July 30, 1999. On June 4, 2006, he married the former Dorothy J. Hanshew, who survives.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by 2 sons, Steve Olmes (Martha) and Jerry Olmes; 2 stepdaughters, Patricia Graham-Barr (Ron) and Brenda Walters (Norman); 7 step grandchildren and 6 step great grandchildren.

Also surviving are a sister, Mary Lou Dehner and 3 nieces.

In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Eleanor Markley.

Friends may call at the Morrison Funeral Home on Friday from 1 to 3 pm.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 3 pm with the Rev. David Oyler, officiating.

Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Second Presbyterian Church, 111 Reed St, Oil City PA 16301.
