George H. Overmoyer

Overmoyer, 92, of Cooperstown, died Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at the Caring Place in Franklin.  Born, September 20, 1923 in Cooperstown, he was the son of Harry and Mary Dille Overmoyer.  He married Rose Marie Sheehan on June 20, 1946 and she preceded him in death on November 30, 2011.

He was a 1943 graduate of Cochranton High School and enlisted in the US Army on March 20, 1944 serving during World War II in the Asiatic and Pacific Theater.  He was honorably discharged on April 16, 1946.

Returning from the war he worked at the former Robert Schall Auto Dealership and also the Ike Deeter Sawmill.  Along with his wife Rose, they owned and operated the Overymoyer Sawmill for over 40 years until his retirement.  After retirement, he also worked for Crevelli Chevrolet in Franklin.

George was a member and an elder at the Cooperstown Presbyterian Church, was a former mayor and councilman in Cooperstown, a member of the Franklin Masonic Lodge #316, Venango Lodge of Perfection, Franklin Commandeer #44 Knights Templar, Cyprus Chapter #236, Royal Arch Masons, Occident Council #41 and the New Castle Consistory.

In his spare time, he enjoyed mowing the grass, hunting and sitting around a campfire with friends and family.

Survivors include his children, Sharon Cooper and her husband Sam of Fairview, Marge Brink of Meadville, Mary Berger and her husband Tom of Polk, and Kevin Overymoyer and his wife Donna of Wyattville.  Grandchildren, Jim Cooper and his wife Susie, Linda Rumfield and her husband Dalton, Jeff Cooper, Stacia Koutroumpis and her husband Peter, Derek Brink and his wife Carole, Rosemary Barry and her husband Sean, Jackie Deeter and her husband Chad, Tommy Nuhfer, Tammy Seitz and her husband Roy, Angela Kiselka and Scott Rice and his companion Nicci Edwards.  21 great grandchildren, 1 great grandson, Jordan and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by 5 sisters, Iva Deeter, Cora Howe, Lucille Terrill, Anna Overmoyer, and Maybelle Deeter, 3 brothers Walter, Howard and Glenn Overmoyer, a daughter Susan Nuhfer and a grandson, Timothy Brink.

Friends and family will be received at the Dickson Family Funeral Home, Inc., 123 S. Franklin St., Cochranton on Friday from 4:00pm until 8:00pm.  The funeral service will be 2:00pm Saturday at the Cooperstown Presbyterian Church with Ken Hall, officiating.

Interment will be in the Cooperstown Cemetery.
