George L. Murray

George L. Murray, 76, of Oil City, died peacefully on Saturday night, October 27, 2018, at Oil City Healthcare & Rehab, following a lengthy illness.

He was born in Seneca on August 21, 1942, to the late William and Helen (Burris) Murray.

He graduated in 1961 from North Clarion High School. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1961 through 1967.

Mr. Murray was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Oil City, where he served as a trustee and an elder.

George enjoyed hunting, fishing, the companionship of his two dogs, Christmas and Molly, and spending time with his grandchildren.

He was employed as a machinist for forty-one and a half years at the Chain Plant in Reno with Joy Manufacturing.

He was married in Oil City on May 12, 1967, to the former Virginia “Ginny” L. (Oakes), and she survives.

Also surviving are two sons: Chadd Murray and his wife Michelle of Strattanville; and Nate Murray and his wife Bridget of Oil City; five grandchildren: Alayna, William, and Brayden Murray, all of Strattanville; and Bobby Joe Myers, Jr. and Izec Murray, of Oil City; and one great-granddaughter, Nova Myers.

George is also survived by a sister, Connie Culp and her husband David of Knox; and two brothers, Gerald Murray and his wife Rose, and Ronald Murray and his wife Sharon, both of Tionesta; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Helen Murray.

Friends and family will be received Wednesday, October 31, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home Thursday, November 1, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. David Oester, pastor of Christ Lutheran Church, officiating. Private interment will follow in Venus Cemetery.
