George M. Stewart

George M. Stewart, 96, a resident of 329 Liberty Street, Franklin died peacefully at 4:00 AM Saturday, December 16, 2017, in The Caring Place of Franklin; following a brief period of declining health.

He was born January 25, 1921, in Butler, a beloved son of the late: John Chester Stewart, Sr. and Frieda Ruth Fisher Stewart.

He was a 1940 graduate of Franklin High School.

Mr. Stewart enlisted with the U. S. Army on October 7, 1942, where he proudly served his country as a medic, having the profound honor to serve under General George S. Patton in both Africa and Italy during World War II.

For service to his country, he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the European-American Theatre Occupation Medal.

He was honorably discharged from active duty on October 8, 1945.

He was a life member of V.F.W. Jesse Greer Post# 1835 in Franklin.

He had worked since 1941 as a Finisher and Master Book Binder, beginning with General Manifold & Printing, The Derrick Printing and finally with Seneca Printing, from where he retired in 1986.

He was a faithful member of the First Church of God in Franklin, where he took great pride in offering his vast woodworking skills to his church.

He was married August 23, 1945, to the former Mary Zalinski, who preceded him in death on November 11, 2012.

He is survived by two daughters: Ann Louise Bryarly and her husband, Butch of Albuquerque, NM and Barbara Ann Burgert of Irwin. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Julie Mazzola and her husband, Mike of Colorado Springs, CO, Nicole Edge of Billings, MT, Marcy Lynn Kiczan and her husband, Ken of North Huntingdon and Lance Blaine Burgert and wife Kirstyn of Bethel Park; two great-granddaughters: Ashley Burgert and Amanda Gerhard and by a great-grandson, Blaine Michael Burgert.

Also, surviving is his sister, Patricia McSparren of Franklin; in addition to many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

In addition to his beloved wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Bob, Ed and John and by his son-in-law, Blaine Burgert.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no public visitation.

Graveside services with full military burial rites accorded by the V.E.T.S. Funeral Honor Guard of Franklin are being planned by his family, with notice of such announced at a later date.
