George William Rishell

George William Rishell, 86, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at his home, surrounded by family.

Born Sunday, April 10, 1932, in Sheffield, PA, he was the son of the late Elisha Blair Rishell and the late Florence Marie (Reedy) Rishell.

George graduated from Clarion High School in Clarion, PA, and later graduated from the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army. George was employed as a teacher at North Hagerstown High School and as a sanitarian for the Washington County Health Department. In later years George was a homebuilder, gentleman farmer, and a Christmas tree grower. George was raised in the Lutheran faith. He was a previous member of the Smithsburg High School Athletic Booster Club and one of the founding members of the Smithsburg Steam and Craft Show.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years Jeanne Marie Rishell; five daughters: Elizabeth Becker and husband Don of Smithsburg, MD, Peggy Feiser and husband Mark of Hagerstown, MD, Mary McPherson and husband Darryl of Hagerstown, MD, Nancy Guiney of Harpers Ferry, WV, and Jane Yoder and husband Jeff of Greencastle, PA; three sons: Blair Rishell and wife Kim of Smithsburg, MD, John Rishell and wife Kathy of Hagerstown, MD and Daniel Rishell and wife Donna of Smithsburg, MD; twenty-six grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Jean Rhoads.

A celebration of George’s life and a picnic will be held Saturday, June 2, 2018, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the home of Peg and Mark Feiser at 21819 Ringgold Pike, Hagerstown, MD.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 747, Hagerstown, MD, 21740.
