KirVonte Benson had a career-high 196 yards rushing and two touchdowns for the Yellow Jackets with TaQuon Marshall adding 112 yards and two scores. In all, Georgia Tech ran for 436 yards and five touchdowns and won the game despite losing four fumbles, including one inside the Pitt 5-yard line in the fourth quarter.

Pitt (1-3, 0-1) couldn’t capitalize on any of the Yellow Jackets miscues not gaining a single point from the four fumbles.

Ben DiNucci started the game for the Panthers but was replaced in the fourth quarter by Max Browne. Neither quarterback was great with DiNucci throwing for 110 yards and a touchdown on 12 of 19 passing and Browne was 10 of 15 passing for 89 yards.

Despite everything, Pitt was tied at 14 after Quadre Henderson’s 80-yard punt return for a touchdown with 8:05 left in the first half.

But Georgia Tech went ahead 21-14 with 51 seconds left in the half on a 5-yard Benson scoring run.

A 55-yard Alex Kessman field goal as time expired in the half got the Panthers back to within four, 21-17, but Georgia Tech scored the only points of the second half on a Quaide Wimerskirch 19-yard scoring run and a 47-yard run by Benson moments after he fumbled inside the five.

Qadree Ollison’s 28-yard run on Pitt’s opening drive gave the Panthers an early 7-0 lead but Georgia Tech answered back with a pair of Marshall touchdowns runs (32 yards and 1 yard) to take the 14-7 lead early in the second quarter.

The Yellow Jackets outgained the Panthers 484 to 235 on the day.

Pitt returns to action Saturday when it hosts Rice.
