5572_sm[1]Gertrude E. Unger, 84, of Rimersburg, PA passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2016, after an extended illness.

She was born February 13, 1931 the daughter of Harry and Rosella (Severy) Neiswonger.

For 35 years, Gertrude worked at the Owens Illinois Glass Plant and during this time she worked in the decorating and selection departments but retired as a quality inspector. She loved caring for her two dogs, Penny and Peaches and enjoyed watching dog shows. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren and baking them homemade bread and noodles.

She will be deeply missed by her loving husband of 57 years, George E. Unger whom she married August 1, 1958; two sons, William Johnston and wife, Doris of Rimersburg, and John Unger and wife, Tina of New Bethlehem; three daughters, Sue Hollingsworth and husband, David of Rimersburg, Deborah Kahle and husband, Dale of Limestone, and Tracy Dunkle of Rimersburg; 22 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Harry “Ed’ Neiswonger and wife, Nancy of Corsica; and a sister, Eunice “Pete” Theiss and husband, Lee of Strattanville.

Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Rick Johnston; a son-in-law, Don Myers; a great-grandson, Matt Grube; two brothers, Ray Neiswonger and Dick Neiswonger; and a sister, Leona Simpson.

At the request of Gertrude, services were privately held.
