Gladys Irene (Kaster) Gilbert, formerly of Cochranton, PA, born March 14, 1925 in Saegertown, PA passed away at 4:20am on Sunday, March 29, 2015 at Sharon Regional Hospital.

Following a concussion, heart attack & stroke at her Mercer home early Saturday morning, she never regained consciousness and peacefully passed away 25 hours later with family at her side.

Gladys celebrated her 90th birthday in March with a week in Las Vegas and a long weekend at Hilton Head. She danced on the Vegas strip and dined on a yacht cruise!

Gladys was a member of Cochranton United Methodist Church and attended Mercer Baptist Church the past few years while living with her son in Mercer.

Gladys’ nickname “Wipeout Queen” was earned from many years of dancing to her favorite song with more enthusiasm then one could imagine. “It’s all in the hips” was her dance tip to everyone. The highlight of her week for years was her Friday night with her friends at The Wildhorse Dance Hall in Saegertown.

She started her employment as a server at Kessler Diner in Meadville, then moved to a cooking position at Visco Corp. in Meadville, where she met her husband. Gladys was best known for her “great country cooking” during her time as owner of Gilbert’s Restaurant in Cochranton.

Through the decades, she was very active in several service organizations including the Ladies Auxiliary and Cootiettes Club of VFW post 2006. She also enjoyed her membership at Eagles Club 429, Meadville Moose and Station Four.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, Rose and Harvey Kaster; her husband, Paul J. Gilbert, Sr.; and two brothers, Earl and James Kaster.

Survivors include a son Harvey Gilbert and wife Star of Las Vegas, NV; son Paul Gilbert and wife Teri of Mercer, PA; sister Naomi Wells and companion Vic Rudy of Meadville, PA; sister Ruth Smith and companion Bob Burr of Saegertown, PA; and multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services by Dickson Funeral Home of Cochranton, PA

Friends will be received at the Dickson Family Funeral Home, 123 S. Franklin St. Cochranton on Tuesday from 12:00pm until 4:00pm.

The funeral service will be at 4pm with the Rev. Gregg Spencer of the Cochranton United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment will be in Saegertown Cemetery.
