Glenn I. Gegogeine

Glenn I. Gegogeine, 88, of Reno, went to be with his Lord and Savior at 2:35 pm, Thursday, September 27, 2012, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born May 8, 1924 in Oil City, he was a son of the late William H. and Frances Rudy Gegogeine.

Glenn graduated from Oil City High School in 1942.

He served in the US Army assigned to the 153rd Engineer Construction Battalion in the South Pacific. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant as a Company Supply Sergeant and received 3 Bronze Stars and various citations.

Glenn was formally employed by the Armstrong Collier Department Store and the Fenner’s Men’s Wear, both of Oil City.

He was appointed as Postmaster at the Reno Post Office and retired after serving 25 years.

Glenn was an active member of the Reno United Methodist Church and held many offices over the years.

He was awarded a Life Time Membership in the Reno Volunteer Fire Department after having served for 21 years as Treasurer. He served on the Reno Cemetery board for many years.

Glenn was a charter member of the Reno Civic Club and was named Citizen of the Year of Reno in 1980. He helped with the organization of the Reno Playground.

He was a member of the James M. Henderson Post #32, American Legion, Oil City, for 67 years. He was selected as Legionnaire of the Year for Outstanding Service and Adjutant and Finance Officer in 1983 and received a Lifetime Membership.

On May 8, 1948 he was married to the former Ruth Irene Allen, who preceded him in death on March 18, 2012. Glenn and Ruth will always be remembered for their loving commitment to one another. They would have celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary this year.

SURVIVING ARE TWO SONS, GREGORY F GEGOGEINE AND WIFE SALLY OF NOBLESVILLE, INDIANA, AND GARRY A AND CHARLOTTE GEGOGEINE OF FRANKLIN; AND VERY SPECIAL FAMILY FRIEND WHO WAS MORE LIKE A DAUGHTER, BETSY KELLNER AND HUSBAND DAVE OF SENECA; AND SEVEN GRANDCHILDREN, GRANT GEGOGEINE, GRETA GEGOGEINE, AARON ALLEN, BRANDON ALLEN, SARAH ALLEN, DAVID KELLNER AND JILL KELLNER.

ALSO SURVIVING IS A SISTER, PHYLLIS STOVER AND TWO SISTERS-IN-LAW, DORIS GEGOGEINE AND IRENE ALLEN, ALONG WITH SEVERAL NIECES AND NEPHEWS.

IN ADDITION TO HIS PARENTS AND HIS LOVING DEVOTED WIFE, HE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY A DAUGHTER, GLENDA KAY “GLENDY” GEGOGEINE IN 1968 AND FOUR SISTERS, SHIRLEY BAUMBACH, FRANCES HOFFMAN, EILEEN HARTMAN AND MABEL UREY AND ONE BROTHER WILLIAM L. GEGOGEINE.

FRIENDS MAY CALL AT THE MORRISON FUNERAL HOME ON SATURDAY FROM 5 TO 7 PM AND ON SUNDAY FROM 12:30 TO 2 PM.

FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD IN THE FUNERAL HOME AT 2 PM SUNDAY.

INTERMENT WILL BE IN RENO CEMETERY.

IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, MEMORIALS ARE SUGGESTED TO THE RENO UNITED METHODIST CHURCH OR TO THE RENO VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT.
