Harold R. “Dutch” Elicker, 89, of Emlenton, a well-known longtime Scrubgrass Twp. farmer passed away Monday afternoon, December 4, 2017, at Grove Manor Nursing Home in Grove City following a period of declining health.

Harold was born in Pittsburgh on April 1, 1928. He was the son of the late Howard R. and Holda Sommers Elicker.

Mr. Elicker was a 1946 graduate of Penn Hills High School.

He was a U.S. Army veteran.

He attended Penn State University and graduated following his military service from the University of Pittsburgh with a Master’s degree in education.

Mr. Elicker was a respected guidance counselor and football coach in the Penn Hills School District for more than 34 years and retired in 1986.

In 1987 Mr. Elicker was inducted into the Penn Hills Sports Hall of Fame.

He was an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed working on the family farm.

Dutch was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Black Elicker, whom he married in Wilkinsburg on November 19, 1955.

He is survived by three children, G. Reed Elicker, Ronald G. Elicker and his wife, Theresa, Lee Ann E. Carr and her husband, Todd, all of Emlenton; six grandchildren, Ben Elicker of Mercer, Sadie Cohlhepp and her husband, Justin, of Knox, Anna Carr, Russ Carr, Melissa Elicker, and Daniel Elicker, all of Emlenton; two great grandsons, Carter and Carson Cohlhepp; two sisters, Mr. Jean Jacobs of Grove City and Mrs. Virginia Flynn of Pittsburgh; a sister-in-law, Carol Fraley of Pittsburgh, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Elicker was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Glenn Elicker and a number of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Friends will be received at the Scrubgrass Stone Church, 258 Stone Church Rd., Emlenton, from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Thursday.

A funeral service will follow from the church at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Dennis Barger, church pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Scrubgrass Cemetery.
