Haynes Late Three Lifts Franklin Boys into Semifinals; Rocky Grove Season Ends

OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) – Ian Haynes hit a 3-pointer with 20 seconds to play to give Franklin the lead for good, as the Knights beat Girard, 50-48, in the District 10 Class 3A quarterfinals at Oil City High School.

Trailing 46-45, Haynes got the ball on the right side and hit his big shot to give Franklin a 48-46 lead before Easton Fulmer hit two free throws 11 seconds later to secure the win.

Fulmer led Franklin with a game-high 21 points with Haynes adding eight and Luke Guth seven.

Austin Barrett paced Girard with 19 points with Ethan Getz adding 12.

Franklin will take on Sharon for the third time this season in the semifinals Tuesday.

YOUNGSVILLE 45, ROCKY GROVE 39

OIL CITY, Pa. – A bad second quarter was too much for Rocky Grove to overcome, as the Orioles fell to Youngsville, 45-39, in the District 10 Class 2A quarterfinals at Oil City High School.

Rocky Grove led 9-7 going to the second quarter but was outscored 13-4 allowing the Eagles to take a 20-13 lead into halftime.

The Orioles fought back and got within a point, 28-27, going to the fourth quarter but couldn’t rally for the win.

Youngsville used a balanced effort to get the victory with Gage Hendrickson and Brady Olewine each scoring nine points, Austin Peterson adding eight points, Ethan Kesterholt seven and Timber Bower and Joe Mack six each.

Gabe Francic led all scorers with 16 points for Rocky Grove with Eli Dickson and Isaac Clayton each chipping in eight points.
