Hazel L. Morrison

Hazel L. Morrison, 101, of Oil City, died at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at Sugarcreek Station in Franklin following a brief illness.

She was born on April 5, 1913 in Bradford, to the late John F. and Bertha Jane (Mealy) Ziegler.

She was a graduate of Oil City High School.

During World War II, she served as an office secretary at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard near Seattle, Washington.

Hazel was a member of the YWCA Gallivantars Club as well as the Oil City Church of the Nazarene.

She enjoyed bowling, crafts, flower gardening, casino trips, and playing bingo. She and her husband enjoyed traveling together.

In her earlier years, Mrs. Morrison worked as a sales clerk for the W.T. Grant and the F.W. Woolworth stores in Oil City. She retired from Polk Center in 1976 after working as a personal care aide in the Sunnyside Building for fifteen years.

She was married on October 27, 1932 to George I. Morrison, and he preceded her in death on December 12, 1979.

Surviving is her daughter, Betty Shirey of Cranberry; three grandchildren: Patricia Yeager and husband Don, Richard G. Hoover and wife Michelle, and Joseph Alan Hoover and fiancé Stacey, all of Oil City; three great-grandchildren: Tony Sargent, Tiffany Yeager, and Hunter Delong; and two great-great-grandchildren, Harmony and Caitlin. She is also survived by four step-grandchildren: Chad Shirey and wife Deb of Oil City, Terry Shirey, Jr. and fiancé Jennifer Weiser of Franklin, Tawnya Shirey of Oil City, and Jodi Hockman and husband Steve of Franklin. Numerous step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Terry Shirey, Sr.; five brothers, Harold, Howard, Roy, and Homer Ziegler, and Carl Davis; and two sisters, Grace Jackson and Frieda Puleo.

A memorial service to celebrate Hazel’s life will be held Monday (Sept. 29th) at 1 p.m. in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, Inc., 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township. The Rev. Randy Kightlinger, VNA hospice chaplain, will officiate.

Private interment will be in Venus Cemetery.
