Hazel Leona NeiswongerHazel Leona Neiswonger of Strattanville passed away at her home on the morning of May 15, 2017. She was 95 years of age.

She was born on November 20, 1921, in Clarion County in a small town up over the hill behind the former Trader Horn store. She believed the town was called Elss Mine.

She was the middle child of the late George and Mary Ann (Crosson) Edwards.

She was married to Solomon Arnold “Tony” Neiswonger who preceded her in death in 1987.

Prior to her marriage, she worked at the glass plant in Clarion. She was a stay-at-home mom, although she often did cleaning outside the home and enjoyed working on the election board in Strattanville.

Helping others was always one of Hazel’s gifts, whether it was taking others to town to do their shopping, sending anonymous gifts to those in need, or sending cards to shut-ins and helping with funeral dinners at her church, Strattanville United Methodist. Singing the old hymns of the church was also one of her joys.

Hazel is survived by her children, Arnold Neiswonger and wife Christine, of Corsica, Karen Neill and husband Randy, of Summerville, and Carol Guthrie and husband Don, of Strattanville. She cherished her grandchildren, Melissa Hill and husband Aaron, Tori Myers and fiancé Daniel Christensen, Bryan Neiswonger, Staci Renninger and husband Thad, Adam Neill, Alaina Neill, Valarie Guthrie, and Jason Guthrie and wife Sheena; and her step-grandchild Steven Hill and wife Abigail. She will be especially missed by her great-grandchildren, Mikalya Myers, Brayden Renninger, Caleb Renninger, Easton Renninger, Taylor Guthrie, and Noah Guthrie; and her great-great-granddaughter, Aliyah Christensen.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandchild, Jill Ann Guthrie, a brother, George “Duck” Edwards, and a sister, Nellie Bennett.

Arrangements are under the care of the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory, 330 Wood Street in Clarion where Hazel’s family will receive visitors on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m.

An additional visitation will be held on Thursday from 10-11 a.m. at the Strattanville United Methodist Church, 421 Washington Street in Strattanville.

Funeral services will follow at the church at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Nancy Zahn, pastor, officiating.

Interment will be in the Strattanville Cemetery.
